NOTES:
  • You must have your Data & Fax facility enabled by your airtime service provider in order to use the facilities via your mobile phone.
  • You will know if Data & Fax have been enabled by your airtime provider as you will have 2 additional mobile phone numbers.
  • These 2 additional numbers are FREE on Vodafone, Cellnet, Orange & One2One.
  • You do need to buy the Bosch Data Interface lead.
  • You must install a Mobile Connectivity Software update provided by Psion on your Series 5mx.

The Bosch 909 also worked very well with the Phoneman Pro program by SG Software for the Psion range of computers. This allowed SMS messages to be composed on the Psion & then sent by the Psion & Bosch 909 via cable connection. SMS Messages received on the Bosch 909 can be read on the Psion again via cable connection. The address book in the Bosch 909 can also be downloaded to a Psion, altered and then uploaded back to the Bosch 909. The program also allows multiple SMS messages to be sent to one recipient and then to be read in the correct sequence on the recipients phone so the problem of only 160 character long messages is a thing of the past. The program also allows multiple people to receive the same message.

The airtime provider used for the setup test calls was One2One.
Sending & Receiving Faxes was simple & worked every time.
Sending SMS messages also worked well.
Dialling out on Data & sending & collecting e-mail worked every time.
Connection to the Internet worked effortlessly.
I found that Receiving Data calls was impossible.

I therefore can NOT recommend the Bosch 909 Phone at this point in time.

I will update this page as & when I get more information or perhaps a software update.

These faults were first reported to One2One and Bosch in December 1999.

These notes were last updated on December 18th. 2001.
