Compact Flash (CF) Cards - How
to use them.
How to Install a CF
Card.
Firstly, before you start, switch OFF your Psion
Series 5 or 5mx.
With the Keyboard upwards (As if
you were using it) open the door on the right hand side of your Series
5/5mx.
Slide the CF card in with the
label upwards (facing you). There is an arrow showing which end goes in
first.
The end with the small holes goes
in first.
There is a small (1 millimetre)
lip on the CF card. This will now be facing downwards when the keyboard is
facing upwards.
Do NOT force the card in. In
only needs a slight push.
Close the door on the Series 5 /
5mx.
You have just installed your CF
card.
Congratulations and enjoy your
added memory.
To Check the card is initialised
turn your Series 5/5mx on, tap on the 'System' icon (bottom left of the
screen), and press the MENU key. Go to Disk. Go to Current Disk. Go to
"D". Press Enter. You will now see the (initially blank) contents of your
new disk. Use the menu option 'Information | Disk' to verify the card's
size.
How to Use a CF Card.
Now you have installed your CF
card, the decisions start. These are very easy to make indeed. You don't need
to panic or worry at all. It is very simple.
When you install new programs via
PsiWin you will automatically be asked which disk you want to install to: "C"
or "D". "C" is your Internal disk on your Series 5/5mx & "D" is your CF
card. The choice here is yours.
A simple rule of thumb is to
ensure that you always have plenty of "Free" space on your "C" drive so that
programs have "Space" to run.
Once installed, each program will
store the data it needs in an appropriate place automatically. There is nothing
you need to do. On some programs you can specify where the data is to be
stored. The choice is then yours.
When a CF card is installed on
your Psion series 5/5mx you will hardly ever realise which drive you are
running from. Programs will be found on the "Extras" bar as normal and
starting them up is equally easy ... Just tap on the Icon... The Psion will
know what to do & where to find the program & data... It will do the
"work" for you. |
