The Pocket CoPilot for the iPAQ - With this you will never be Lost again.

The CoPilot expansion jacket turns your iPAQ Pocket PC into a fully featured GPS navigation system with voice function, giving turn-by-turn directions throughout your journey.

The jacket itself fits neatly onto the iPAQ and is much slimmer than GPS jackets available from other manufacturers. It incorporates an internal battery which allows the unit to acquire a very rapid locational fix on startup and a powerful patch antenna, with the option of adding an external antenna if necessary. Straight out of the box the system is easy to use and will be up and running in just a few minutes. The 128MB Compact Flash data card comes preloaded with NAVTECH street level geodata for the whole UK, together with European highways data, so no complicated downloading of data is required. This is just one of the reasons that BMW have selected CoPilot to run on iPAQs mounted into the new Mini.

Unlike other similar systems, CoPilot not only tells you where to make turns, it also gives precise instructions including street names such as "1.3 miles ahead, turn left on Broadfield Road". This level of accuracy means that you do not need to look at the on-screen map while driving and is a major improvement to safety. The use of the supplied vent mount, rather than the more usual windscreen mounts also improves safety by positioning the unit away from the drivers line of site.

Your destination can be selected by searching for a postcode, street name, street junction or Outlook contact, or simply by touching the on-screen map. Along your journey, should you make a detour or miss a junction, the software uses Dynamic Route Guidance to automatically recalculate your route and get you back on course as quickly as possible.

CoPilot is currently being shipped with UK postcode & street level data and major roads of Europe with European Street Level data seperately available now.

However, the single most impressive thing about this unit over its competitors is that it is 'Traffic Ready', in that when used in conjunction with a Bluetooth iPAQ and Bluetooth mobile phone your route is optimised and recalculated to take acount of realtime live traffic data from the AA Roadwatch service. This functionality is already built into the unit and will be available from Spring 2003 for an nominal upgrade cost and monthly service fee to AA Roadwatch (currently £8.25 / month).
